Sprinkles Sweet ShopThe Southend of Montclair just got sweeter with the delectable recent opening in the southern part of town - Sprinkles Sweet Shop. The Southend of Montclair, New Jersey hasn't had this quality of gourmet ice cream Parlor in at least a couple of years. Hopefully eateries like Sprinkles and Uncle Paulie's will revive the food establishments in the Southend of Montclair, NJ. Sprinkles is a promising step in the right direction. Sprinkles is a clean, bright and inviting shop. Shop Owner Susana Encarnacion is pleasant, friendly, and ready to serve up her creamy frozen treats with alacrity. Sprinkles gets its delicious ice cream from a a very well regarded Italian gourmet dessert creator. The frozen desserts come in many delicious flavors and is rich and creamy. The shops treats are well worth the travel necessary to indulge in treating yourself to the flavorful desserts from any part of town. On a hot night or when you're looking for a great dessert this gelato is an awesome treat. The staff here are very nice and helpful. They offer free samples of flavors that you are interested in. You will want to take advantage of this kindness because the gelato comes in exotic fruit flavors like mango and organic strawberry - yummy. Kamau: Hey Ed can you tell me your full name and the Name of your Company and what do you do? Ed's Answer: Our Name is Gruppo Gelato. We operate a gelateria on Church Street in Montclair Center. Ed's Answer: I am originally from Newark, and except for a few yrs in manhattan have been a resident of nj my entire life. |

I am primarily a real estate developer and this is a second business I opened together with the following partners: Angelo and Mario, native Italians and restaurant owners (basilica in mill burn), Angelo C a native of Sicily and our contractor, Howard G, retired head of Corp Finance Blackstone Co, and Laura C, former owner of European Eatery on Church Street. We believe the population in Montclair And the surrounding communities are likely to appreciate the taste first put equally soothe nutritional superiority of gelato vs ice cream and in some cases (sorbet to) even vs frozen yogurt. Kamau: At what point in your life did you decide you wanted to become an entrepreneur? Ed's Answer: I have been an entrepreneur starting at age 10, partly out of necessity and partly instinctual. Kamau: Who were some of your role models that influenced you to go into business?

Ed's Answer: Role models would include those persons who were creative but who also, once they achieved success turned to public service or in some way used that at least partially for the betterment of society. Kamau: What were some of the biggest challenges to you in starting your gelato parlor? Ed's Answer: Challenges to opening were first finding the right location. Then preparing the space itself was a major and very expensive proposition all our equipment is from Italy and we tried to create a veer upscale and authentic modern Italian atmosphere. Over coming obstacles is mostly a matter of determination, perseverance. Most things worthwhile are complicated and present issues which one must not be discouraged by. To succeed therefore one needs to think through in detail one's plans and challenge one's assumptions with various adverse possibilities. And prepare against as many as possible, as the best way to solve problems is to to avoid them in the first place. |

What are the special ingredients or sources of your delicious gelato? For instance, I thought I heard some where you have a special source for your gelato. Is this true? Ed's Answer: We offer an upscale, high quality product in a attractive setting. Our gelato is artigianale (artisan) that is real strawberries for example, not from a concentrate flavor ingredient, and our espresso coffee is Esse, imported from Italy and considered one of the best quality and tasting coffees to day. Our gelato provider is Signora Giuliana and she has her facility in New Haven, Connecticut Her main business is selling in pint sizes to upscale markets such as Whole Foods, Balduccis in NYC.
