Montclair Mayor Forges Cultural and
Biz Ties with China

Montclair Mayor Jerry Fried is an advocate of cultural and business exchange between Montclair, New Jersey and Sista Cities in China. The major has taken a small number of trips to various parts of China and is optimistic about the benefits of cultural exchange between our town and other areas in China.

Montclair is known for it's diversity and therefore, seems to be
a great place to foster cultural exchange with other countries. Mayor Fried also references that Montclair, New Jersey has been doing an educational exchange with Chinese students living with families in Montclair.

The Mayor recently meet with a concerned group of Montclair residents and Chinese entrepreneurs to work through the issues of:

"what excites individuals about exchanges with China?
In the next year would a wildly successful China exchange program look like in to attendees? and
What concerns residents about the China exchange programs?"

Two of the points we raised with Mayor Fried were the need of an organization formed in Montclair to help with commerce with China and for children from diverse backgrounds and abilities to visit China for cultural exchanges.

New Gospel Musical to Showcase Near Montclair

"For The Love Of Money" - Bloomfield College Saturday, September 17, 2011, 7PM. TY Lowman’s talented all star cast will present “For the Love of Money” - a much anticipated theatrical extravaganza about members of a faithful God-fearing family whose lives are about to change after winning the lottery.

“For the Love of Money” is a comedy yet enlightening source of hope, encouragement, and a message about how money can take over, and if you let it, destroy your life. The show is expected to exceed all expectations of greatness as another entertaining and inspiring production that will live up to Ty Lowman’s mission of “Changing Lives, one play at a time.”

Montclair Meetings and Events

September 18th - Fall tours begin at the Israel Crane House. Step back through 200 years of American History at the Montclair Historical society's four historical properties.

Tours on Sundays through December. At the Israel Crane House, on 108 Orange Road in Montclair, NJ. The Crane House was occupied by the Crane family and later became the home for African American women a social center under the auspices of the YWCA of Montclair-North Essex. Check out this enlightening historic tour. Tours begin at 1 and 2 p.m.; Tours at Orange Road begin at 3:30 $8 for adults and $5 for children for each property, or both for $15 adult, $5 child.

Passport to the Past: A Home School day. Experience life in the early 19th century. Hands-on activities including butter churning, writing a letter with a quill pen and sealing wax, writing on slate boards, touring the Israel Crane House, and more. Thursday, Sept. 22, from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m., Montclair Historical Society, 108 Orange Road.

Reservations required; reserve at 973-744-1796 or mail@montclairhistorical.org. One Adult chaperone required for every organized group of 10 homeschoolers. $5/child; $8/adult.

Pre-K Garden Discoveries: Van Vleck's Garden Discoveries classes are designed to inspire 3-to 5-year olds about the natural world. Every class examines on topic through stories, outdoor exploration, and hands on activities and specimens. Classes held twice a month from 1:15 - 2 p.m., and each class has individual registration. Each program will include a guided hike, hands-on activities and a story. Sept. 14: Fall blooms, Sept. 28: Signs of Fall. $7 for Friends of Van Vleck; $12 others. Instructor Michelle Wiessner.
