Cathy Gaines Interview Continued Part 2

Cathy's Answer: Clients wonder how I was able to do it. It’s like magic, especially when they have been to many other therapists and haven't gotten this result. Many say my fingers have magic energy!

2) Kamau: Can you tell us a little bit about your background, such as where you grew up and went to school?

Cathy's Answer: I was born and raised in Montclair, NJ, and I have lived here all my life.

3) Kamau: When did you decide you wanted to do Massage Therapy?

Cathy's Answer: All my life, I’ve wanted to be an integral part of the health and wellness of others. Massage has given me the opportunity to do that.

4) Kamau: At what point in your life did you decide you wanted to become an entrepreneur?

Cathy's Answer: At the age of 14, I read an ad in the back of a magazine about selling personalized greeting cards, door to door. I ordered them, and I began my first business venture. I loved the independence of being my own boss.

Cathy Gaines, a life time Montclair, New Jersey, resident recently moved into her new office offering various forms of Massage. Ms. Gaines specializes in Swedish, Deep Tissue, Reflexology, and Chair Massage. She is a graduate of the Essex Group Institute of Verona, NJ.

Cathy is a Certified Massage Therapist. Her new office will give her the ability to service her client's right in the heart of Montclair Center.

Cathy likes to really help people feel better physically in that she's been into health and wellness for years now. She does both 1/2 hour to an hour table and chair massages.

I caught up to Ms. Gaines to ask her about her recent business move. Her Interview follows below.

Kamau: Hey, Cathy can you tell me the name of your company and what do you do?

Cathy's Answer: The name of my company is Massage Magic. The Magic of Massage is when a client comes in with aches and pains and soreness, and, after a session, can report that they feel great!

5) Kamau: Who were some of your role models that influenced you to go into business?

Cathy's Answer: Anyone who can pull themselves up by their own bootstraps, and make a success of themselves, is a role model in my book.

6) Kamau: What were some of the biggest challenges to you in becoming successful in life?

Cathy's Answer: The challenge was being a single parent, raising 3 children, and starting my own business.

7) Kamau: How did you overcome these challenges?

Cathy's Answer: I raised 3 successful adults, and I went back to school.

8) Kamau: What are some of the greatest lessons you learned in life on how to succeed?

Cathy's Answer: I have learned to stay focused on my goals; to not let any setback discourage me, and to stay on-task until I succeed.

9) Kamau: When did you decide that the Internet is a place that you wanted to do business?

Cathy's Answer: I attended your workshop, Kamau, on Internet Marketing and Social Networking.

10) Kamau: What makes your business unique or different from your competitors?

Cathy's Answer: My competitors give impersonal, mechanical massages. I get to know my clients. I want to know who they are and what they are about.

11) Kamau: Was there a defining moment or turning point in your business career when you knew you were going to be successful?

Cathy's Answer: On two occasions, I have been asked to bring comfort to clients with end-term cancer. They each became a part of my life as I brought them relief from pain. I was privileged and honored to care for them.

12) Kamau: What are the benefits of Massage?

Cathy's Answer: Massage has a calming effect on the nervous system; it helps clients stay energized and focused. The therapy I offer strengthens the immune system, improves circulation, relieves tight muscles, enhances muscle tone, reduces anxiety, and promotes a good night’s sleep.

14) Kamau: I thought I read somewhere on one of your sites that you recently moved into a new space in Montclair. How is your new location helping to better serve your customers?

Cathy's Answer: Yes, my office is at 217 Glenridge Avenue, Montclair, NJ, between Starseed Yoga and the Montclair Book Center. I am right in the center of town.
